Jorgia’s perspective: When should campuses educate students about sexual assault?
October 11, 2011
I’ve been taught about sexual assault since I was old enough to understand what the word means. I think it’s imperative that college campuses continue to provide education from the day students walk through the doors on their first day until graduation day, you never know how one lesson might affect someone. I think holding lectures are effective when a speaker is present and can make the subject relatable. I also think that holding an outreach event/ fundraiser supporting sexual assault awareness and getting students involved in that way would get them emotionally involved in way that maybe they wouldn’t be if they haven’t had to deal with this issue personally. I don’t think just attending a lecture would give them the same kind of emotional attachment. Taking part in an event would not only allow them to be a part of the solution, to lead by example and inform students about the issue as well as help students that may be going through the healing process.
