Weekly Word Up

What can you do (or have you done) in your community to help stop street harassment?

This weeks “word up” is inspired by the work of Holly Kearl, Founder of Stop Street Harassment and Author of “Stop Street Harassment: Making Public Places Safe & Welcoming for Women”. Another example of what the actions of “one” can do. To learn about street harassment and Holly’s work we encourage you to check out- stopstreetharassment.org

When someone makes sexual comments or gestures towards me in public I say in my strongest and most confident voice, “no thank you” and keep walking. It usually surprises them that I respond at all. I never really thought of this as street harassment, I thought is was just part of being a woman.
