Weekly Word Up

We get the opportunity to work with thousands of students and most if not all of them know someone who has been sexually assaulted. One of the most common questions we get comes from friends or family members of survivors. They want to know what they can do to support someone they care about who has been sexually assaulted or abused. We understand that sometimes it’s hard to find the right words. We want to hear what you think, whether you’re a survivor or secondary survivor.

What words of encouragement/ comfort do you think someone who has been sexually assaulted would most like to hear from someone they care about?

Honestly, just knowing that my friend is there to support me without judgement is the important part. If they don’t know what to say that’s ok, because I don’t either. It’s hard to tell someone you care about that you were sexually assaulted because you don’t want them to have the pressure to say the right thing to make you feel better.
